Another weekend of the remaining weeks of #Covid_19SA lockdown is upon us, and Liezel van der Westhuizen has just the list for you to check out on Netflix.
Liezel is a well-loved media personality in the South African radio and television media space. To date, she continues to inspire many and currently changing the game like no one has ever done before. She is also a global motivational speaker and corporate coach, specialising in personal branding and speaker training.
But beyond sports and radio, Liezel is fondly known to friends and fans alike as ‘The Giraffe’, a moniker she has also worked into the name of her personal vlog, Giraffe in the City. What many people may not know is that the nickname was initially meant to be an insult.
Which is why there was no better person to chat to when it came down to finding the best “Netflix and Chill” suggestions for the lovebirds to the singles; from the brave hearts to the adventurous!
Liezel’s Netflix recommendation list:
Suggestion 1: For the lovebirds – The Kissing Booth
Why Liezel recommends it: Local is lekker, even if it’s just in the form of a film location. I think this is a charming, romantic (family-friendly) comedy.
Suggestion 2: For the singles – He’s Just Not That Into You
Why Liezel recommends it: It takes cherished blockbuster stars like Jennifer Aniston & Ben Affleck, and explores the imperfections that make the human experience, a perilous (and somewhat serendipitous) one. I want to cringe at the relatability sometimes and grin at the small measure of quiet rom-com that this film dolls out.
Suggestion 3: For the brave hearts – A Fall from Grace
Why Liezel recommends it: It’s not for those who are seeking out something lighthearted. This is a crime thriller drama film by Tyler Perry, that’s going to demand you use up some of your emotional stores, to journey with this sad, downtrodden woman.
Suggestion 4: For the adventurous – Spenser Confidential
Why Liezel recommends it: Remember ‘Black Panther’s M’Baku? Well, here’s another dose of the talented (and gorgeous) Winston Duke, running about – not with Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’ o in Jordan Peele’s ‘Us’ this time – but with the incomparable Mark Wahlberg in his truest Bostonian skin.
Basically watch this if you want to follow the plot, of an ex-cop and ex-con teaming up, to bring action and adventure to your isolation.
Suggestion 5: For the ones needing a pick-me-up – Grace & Frankie
Why Liezel recommends it: It’s not just old ladies Netflix threw a budget at, to reach a more seasoned demographic. It’s MUCH MORE! Grace & Frankie, starring the incredible duo of Jane Fonda & Lily Tomlin, is a rather thorough comedy tackling some of this decade’s most divisive issues, with hilarious, dramatic comedy timing.
Grab your popcorn, sit back and enjoy!
